They're ugly! They're rarely cross-browser compatible! They're forgotten about and dumped almost immediately after the first semi-successful attempt. There ain't much there!
These are all "proof of concept" pages. Granted, most of these concepts have been tested before, and successfully implemented, but when you're starting from scratch, it's always nice to have a test case of your own.
